Released in 1947, the Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven starrer movie is an all time hit romantic comedy film.The movie was directed by Henry Koster and written by Robert E Sherwood. It was released by RKO.

David Niven played the role of Bishop Henry Broughom, Cary Grant as Dudley who was an angel and Loretta Young played the role of Julia, who is Bishop’s Henry’s wife. Bishop Henry had been trying hard to build a new cathedral which he had to postpone for a long time because of lack of funds. He prayed hard and therefore, the angel Dudley was sent to help him. Dudley has a different way to help people in fulfilling there wish. He helps people, but not in the way that people expects him to do. Dudley, therefore, did not help Henry with the construction of the cathedral, he however, guided Henry and people around him. In the meanwhile, Henry became so obsessed with his aim to construct the building that he started neglecting his wife, Julia. Everybody, except Henry was charmed by Dudley. Dudley also managed to convince the wealthy people to contribute the funds which Henry had been trying for long. However, the funds were not utilized towards building of Cathedral, but to help the needy.

In the meanwhile Julia started to get attracted towards Dudley, which Henry did not like at all. He started believing that Dudley is going to replace his place in professional and personal life. Therefore, he asks Dudley to depart. Dudley could do everything he can do to restore the church and also arranged a new typewriter which automatically type Henry’s new sermon without Henry’s knowledge. Releasing that his mission is completed and Julia’s love for her husband, Dudley decided to leave with a promise of never to return. On the Christmas Eve, Henry delivered the sermon which was written by Dudley.

Remember The Night (1940)

This 1940 movie is a romantic comedy with a twist of drama. Preston Sturges with Mitchell Leisen as the director write the movie. Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray are the lead stars with Beulah Bondi and Sterling Holloway as featured stars.

The movie is all about Lee Leander played by Barbara Stanwyck, who tries to shoplift for a bracelet in a New York Jewelry shop during the holiday, and was caught and eventually arrested. Assigned to prosecute her is the District Attorney John Sargent played by Fred McMurray. Supposedly, the trial will begin just before Christmas. However, instead of facing a jury filled with the holiday spirit, the attorney decide to postpone the trial and posts Lee’s bail for her not to spend Christmas in jail.

John then found out that Lee is a co Hoosier or a native of Indiana and offered to drop her off as he is on his way to his mother’s house for a visit as well as to his cousin Willie and Aunt Emma. As they continue their travel, they get lost in Pennsylvania. They spend the night in a field as they crash through a fence and are arrested by a farmer the next morning. They were able to escape when Lee starts a fire as a distraction.

As John drops off Lee, he was able to witness the cold reception that Lee got and decided to take her home with him. Lee was warmly welcomed in John’s place despite of the situation she is into. During the holiday, John fell in love with Lee and he gives her a chance to escape while on their way back to New York but Lee refuses the opportunity.

During the trial, Lee pleaded guilty and John proposes to her. Lee then told John that he still feels the same when she gets back from jail, they will get married.
